A boiler guarantee covers only what its written terms promise. Product cover, installer workmanship cover and a paid repair plan are different protections, even when marketing uses similar language.

Three forms of cover

Cover Usually provided by Main question
Manufacturer guarantee or warranty Boiler manufacturer Which product faults, parts, labour and call-outs are included?
Workmanship cover Installer or scheme Who corrects installation defects and for how long?
Paid repair or care plan Insurer or service provider What events, limits, excesses and exclusions apply?

Do not assume one will pay because another refuses. Identify whether the problem concerns the appliance, installation or wider heating system.

Registration

Record who registers the appliance, the deadline, exact model and serial number, installation date and evidence required. Extended terms may depend on the installer, controls, filter or other qualifying products. Save the confirmation rather than relying on a verbal promise.

Annual servicing

Some manufacturers require servicing every year by an appropriately registered person. Worcester Bosch, for example, states yearly servicing is a condition of its guarantee. Timing and evidence vary, so read the terms for the exact product.

Keep every invoice and service record. It should identify the appliance, date, business/engineer and work completed.

Common areas to check

  • registration and commissioning deadlines;
  • annual service intervals;
  • excluded system water, sludge, scale or external components;
  • consumables and cosmetic parts;
  • unauthorised alterations;
  • access costs and making good;
  • geographic limits;
  • transfer when the property is sold; and
  • remedy if parts are unavailable.

These are questions, not assumptions about every brand.

If workmanship caused the problem

Contact the installer in writing with the diagnosis, photos and commissioning documents. The manufacturer may cover a failed boiler component but not defective external pipework or installation. If the installer belongs to a competent-person or consumer-code scheme, check its complaint and insurance-backed routes.

Frequently asked questions

Does missing a service affect cover?

It can. Check the exact wording, dates and any discretion or evidence provisions. Do not assume a late service is automatically accepted or automatically voids every unrelated claim.

Who should I contact if installation workmanship caused the fault?

Start with the installing business and written evidence. If unresolved, check the contract, card-provider rights, scheme membership, alternative dispute resolution and independent consumer advice.

Suggested on-page component

Use a Guarantee Record Organiser for registration, annual service evidence and contact routes. It must not declare a claim valid.
