Map the pattern
Run the heating normally and, without touching hot surfaces, note which radiators warm first, which remain cool and whether the top, bottom or whole panel differs. Record zone, TRV setting, room thermostat demand and recent work.

Balancing versus bleeding
Bleeding releases trapped air from an emitter. Balancing adjusts lockshield valves to distribute flow. One does not substitute for the other. Incorrect adjustment can make other rooms worse or reduce minimum flow through the boiler.
When to use an engineer
Arrange help if you are unsure, valves leak or seize, the system pressure changes, contamination is suspected, or the boiler requires specific minimum flow. A competent person can measure temperatures and commission the system rather than guessing by touch.

Why are radiators nearest the boiler warmer?
